All hail the people!
Sometimes writing this blog feels like evangelism, because everything we write about comes back to people, people, people! We believe in the power of people.
Increasingly research, needs assessments and statistical data prove people are fundamental to business and personal success. We agree every time (and not just because we're engaged with the business of people and absolutely passionate about it!)
Thirteen-plus years of being ‘dialogue’ and our combined expertise of more than 200 years of people-experience may mean that we're biased and single focused, but every day we witness a new reason to keep pushing the message:
People count! Pay attention to your people, invest in your people, communicate.
It really is all in the people – recruiting the right people, ensuring they have the skills, enabling them to apply their skills, communicating expectations, celebrating achievements. And this is not just for HR - every leader and manager needs the skills to manage their team. This skills-set is as important as the technical and project management skills they hopefully also possess.
We meet managers that ‘don’t have time’ to manage 'people stuff''; deadlines that are ‘too tight’ to allow for information sharing; company cultures that ‘can’t shift’ because ‘everybody’ does it the old way; leaders who have ‘useless’ employees… this list could go on and on.
The point is that almost every problem comes down to the same root: if you don’t have time for communication and care, people will continue to under-function, sabotage, mis-manage, mess up and generally make the business less productive, effective and successful than it has the potential to be.
It’s very simple - invest time in the human wealth of your business and the results will speak for themselves.
